Camara refurbish old computers and uses them to empower learning in Sub Saharan Africa contributing to meeting the Millennium Development Goals, the aims of Agenda 21 and the recommendations of the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation for Sustainable Development.

  • By reusing computers Camara is reducing the need for the manufacture of new computers, a process which has massive inherent environmental costs.
  • Camara has developed and implemented procedures on waste prevention and management by the formulation of operational measures to encourage waste prevention.
  • In 2009 Camara is already pursuing reuse contracts with over 250 European companies.
  • As a major part of their work Camara is collaborating with the Department of Environment on the formulation of a Reuse Protocol recommending the best practice course of action for business and consumers dealing with e-waste, specifically waste ICT equipment.
  • Camara expects to have implemented a world class education package developed in conjunction with existing valued partners in the environmental education sector. In Ireland alone Camara will deliver this programme to over 2,000 schools.
  • Camara is working to establish an environmentally sound dismantling centre in Kenya in order to begin dealing with the vast volumes of waste being generated across the African continent.
  • Based on existing content and examples from the work of the dismantling facility, Camara is creating a multimedia-based 'Learning Pack' that will be provided free of charge to educational institutions.
  • Camara has partnered with over 250 companies in Europe to provide them with secure data destruction services inline with US DoD protocols
